Los Bolos Trail in Dúrcal

Hiking Along the Water in the Lecrín Valley

Just a few kilometres from Alquería de los Lentos, you’ll find one of our favourite walks for the warmer months: the Los Bolos Trail in Dúrcal.

What makes this route particularly special is the presence of water throughout much of the walk. Irrigation channels, small waterfalls, lush vegetation and the constant sound of flowing water turn the trail into a refreshing escape from the Andalusian summer heat.

Discovering the Lecrín Valley on Foot ( Los Bolos Trail Dúrcal )

The Los Bolos Trail is approximately 6 kilometres long and usually takes around 2–3 hours, depending on your pace, how often you stop and how far you decide to explore.

The difficulty is moderate. You don’t need to be an experienced hiker, although there are rocky sections, wet areas and a few places where you need to watch your step.

And that is exactly part of its charm. This isn’t simply a walk with beautiful views: water is part of the experience.

Along the way, the trail passes through abundant vegetation and alongside streams, leading towards some lovely hidden corners, small pools and waterfalls where it is well worth stopping for a while.

A Perfect Summer Hike

Summers in Granada can be hot, so finding routes with shade and water makes a big difference. Los Bolos is one of those trails that allows you to continue enjoying nature even during the warmer months.

In some sections you walk right beside the water, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.

Bring enough drinking water, sun protection and, during summer, try to start your walk in the morning before the hottest part of the day.

For families with children, the trail can become a little adventure of its own. Water, rocks, vegetation and waterfalls make the walk much more entertaining than a conventional hiking route. As always, take the age and experience of the children into account and check the conditions of the trail and water before setting off.

Dúrcal: At the Foot of Sierra Nevada

The route starts in Dúrcal, one of the villages of the Lecrín Valley, beautifully positioned between Granada, the Costa Tropical and the mountains of Sierra Nevada.

This location is one of the things we love most about our area.

Within relatively short distances you can discover completely different landscapes: river gorges, historic irrigation channels, whitewashed villages, olive and citrus groves, waterfalls and mountain trails climbing towards Sierra Nevada.

The Los Bolos Trail is a wonderful introduction to this landscape.
