The Pavilla Path: between ravines, irrigation ditches and mountain whispers

ree

In the vibrant heart of Nigüelas, where white houses cling to the ravine and the Sierra Nevada caresses the horizon, lies one of the most enchanting trails in the region: the Sendero de la Pavilla.

A route that not only offers views,

but also tells stories hidden among rocks, water and wind. A walk between water and abysses This circular trail of approximately 5 km begins next to the village and quickly enters a landscape where nature and ancestral engineering go hand in hand. The star of the trail is the Pavilla irrigation channel, a work of Andalusian origin that still murmurs its song of clear water to those who walk alongside it. The canal runs along the steep slopes of the Barranco de Nigüelas, an impressive gorge that looks like something out of a book of legends.

The path is narrow in some sections, but well signposted and with places to stop, take a deep breath and let yourself be carried away by the echo of the birds, the murmur of the water and the majestic silence of the mountain.

Natural viewpoints and traces of the past During the walk,

there are spots that invite you to stay a little longer: ancient terraces now dormant, dry stone shepherds' shelters, and viewpoints where the view expands towards the Torrente River valley. On clear days, you can sense the presence of the sea in the background, like a well-kept secret. You will also pass through stretches of Mediterranean forest, where holm oaks, pines and aromatic plants such as rosemary and sage perfume the air. Ideal for a half-day outing

This trail is perfect for a half-day getaway: easy to do with children who have some experience, ideal for occasional hikers or photography enthusiasts. We recommend bringing water, good footwear and a camera: the light plays magically with the landscape, especially at sunset. And after the walk... what could be better than a quiet lunch or a cold beer in the garden of Alquería de los Lentos? How to get there From the main square in Nigüelas, just follow the signs to the "Sendero de la Pavilla" or ask any local: they will be happy to show you the way. The route is signposted and forms part of the official trails of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. Or simply leave your car in the car park at Alqueria de los Lentos ( +34 659 912 961 )
